Clay Projects at Hands-On Studio
Friday, June 10 from 6 to 7 pm: Make
your own texture tools! Since ancient times,
"roulette" stamps, signature seals and
"chops", and other clay impression tools
have helped potters design their surfaces
and sign their work.
Come and make your own set of tools, to
keep and use on future projects at Hands
On and elsewhere.
$18 for TBG members, $29 for
non-members includes clay, instruction and
firing.

Soda Firing Workshop: Tuesday evenings, June 21 and 28, learn about soda and atmospheric firings, and make
several pieces that are well suited ot the magic of soda.
We will decorate with flashing slips and glazes, attach wadding and load a model of the kiln. July 5th all student are
invited to come and participate in the firing at a cottage on Wolf Lake in Brooklyn, Michigan (an hour north) -- bathing
suits recommended!
$45 includes clay, glazes, slips and firing costs. If this session fills, we'll schedule another in July! Register by
contacting me:at 419.902.6800 or email ksavino@bex.net

Learn to mix safe ^6 glazes! Three sessions, July 12, 19 and 20. Packaged, commercial mixes are convenient, but
they are expensive and the ingredients are a mystery. It's hard to "fix" a glaze when you don't know its ingredients...
and those "food safe" labels refer to the finished product, and don't necessarily mean raw glazes safe for the potter!
Sign up for this course to learn the hands-on basics of buying ingredients, following a glaze "recipe" and mixing and
storing glazes. We will learn about glazes and melting temperatures, make glaze record notebooks for you to keep,
make and code test tiles, and mix hundred gram test batches. The fired tests will be recorded and then glazes will be
layered for a second round of tests and line blends. In the final session, students will mix a gallon of glaze to take
home.
$50 covers instruction, glaze materials, firings, recipes, a notebook, and a gallon bucket of glaze.
